Most prams fall into three main categories, each providing different options. Within each type there are prams to meet all budgets, so think which type of pram best fits with your needs and then start seaching within that category for the right make and model for you.
Pramettes or 2-in-1s initially provide a flat bed for new-borns
but convert to a pushchair design to allow older babies and
toddlers to sit more upright. They tend to be smaller than more
complicated designs and are easy to store away.

3-in-1 prams normally consist of a lie-flat Pram that detaches from the wheeled base and doubles as a Carrycot and an upright pushchair that you can swap onto the base. Apart from allowing you easily move your baby inside, the carrycot can also be used for overnight sleeps, although an extra mattress may be needed for this.

A travel system is a collection of interchangeable attachments which generally include a lie-flat pram, pushchair and car-seat that all can fit onto the one frame. In particular, this allows you to move your baby from the car, to a pushchair, and inside with the minimum of fuss and effort. However the sheer number of accessories means these take up a lot of space.
